I think it was right after the second season of the Tudors aired on Showtime that I said to myself, “With how much Showtime loves to air historical scandal and porn, they totally need to do a show like this with the Borgias!”… and now I find out that Showtime has read my mind and done just that! Plus Neil Jordan will be directing it with Jeremy Irons as Rodrigo Borgia… so now I have to watch it, lol!

Anywho, in honor of that I have made this wallpaper with Bartolomeo Veneto’s portrait of Lucrezia Borgia, daughter of Pope Alexander VI.

Texture used: :iconaleeka-stock:

Made in Photoshop CS3.

Love your work! I am really interested in Monarchy-ish stuff as well and came across you work while researching. LOVE and still miss the Tudors. I really wish that show would have kept going after Henry died! I wanted to see "Bloody Mary" take over. I wanted to love the Borgia's... but was disappointed with the episode I watched.

Lucrezia Borgia (18 April 1480 – 24 June 1519) was the illegitimate daughter of Rodrigo Borgia, the powerful Renaissance Valencian who later became Pope Alexander VI, and Vannozza dei Cattanei. Her brothers included Cesare Borgia, Giovanni Borgia, and Gioffre Borgia. It is often suggested that Cesare and Lucrezia may have had an incestuous relationship.

Lucrezia's family later came to epitomize the ruthless Machiavellian politics and sexual corruption alleged to be characteristic of the Renaissance Papacy. Lucrezia was cast as a femme fatale, a role she has been portrayed as in many artworks, novels, and films.

Very little is known of Lucrezia, and the extent of her complicity in the political machinations of her father and brothers is unclear. They certainly arranged several marriages for her to important or powerful men in order to advance their own political ambitions. Lucrezia was married to Giovanni Sforza (Lord of Pesaro), Alfonso of Aragon (Duke of Bisceglie), and Alfonso I d'Este (Duke of Ferrara). Tradition has it that Alfonso of Aragon was an illegitimate son of the King of Naples and that her brother Cesare may have had him murdered after his political value waned.

Really, their doing a show about the Borgia's... excellent, hopefully it's nothing like the Tudors with its immense historical inaccuracy, pisses me off when directors think they can do better than the actual story!

Yes, the Borgias has already completed its first season and was pretty good, but not very accurate, sadly. Still, its a good watch.

My name is Lucrezia and i come from Italy! Unfortunately I'm not the daughter of the pope. I love renaissance, georgian, regency, victorian and edwardian eras and your work's amazing... I love it!

I really really love what you have accomplished with this rendering. I really like the original but its so dated. Its really great to see this work was treated well with digital means.
